 Confusing indicator lights, cheap feel and unreliable USB connection January 12, 2008

First of all, I was a bit confused by the indicators on the device. When the device is plugged in to AC power, there is no indication that it is actually powered up. There are several LEDs on the device and I would expect a Power LED to be lit while the device was powered up and connected to the computer, but there is not. As long as you know it's plugged in, you're good. The memory card reader portion feels cheap. The cards must slide in at angles and it is easy to mis-fit the card into the slot. Once a card is successfully installed, then the LED for that slot will illuminate and data can be passed.
The USB connections seem to be unreliable. When connected to my Blackberry phone or MP3 player, the devices appear to bounce offline every 10 seconds or so, making file transfers impossible. I purchased two of these, one for my computer and one for my wifes, and they both exhibit this behavior.
I can't recommend this device, because it feels buggy and just plain doesn't work with USB devices.

We now own 4 digital cameras and 1 video, and need to read memory, SD, SD-high, and compact cards. With our Mac this was the gadget we needed. Now we can download any card! They eliminated the need of USB ports for different card readers and gave us more 2.0 USB ports. So far everything we connected worked perfect. We love it.

Needed a few more USB ports and since I already had a Card Reader tying up one of my USB ports this seemed like the way to go. So far it has lived up to my expectations. The only thing that could be improved is the decktop bracket, which has a tendency to fall off but other than that for the price it works great.
a good card reader with bonus USB ports October 27, 2007
I have an old Sandisk card reader which has been working great but just a little bit of slow because it's a USB 1.1. I came across this IOgear one with a reasonable price plus some extra USB ports. I have been using it for about 2 months without any problem. It comes with a power adapter to power the USB ports. Most of the time, I just use the card reader to transfer data. I don't even need to plug-in the power adapter and it works just fine.

I purchased the Iogear Hub for use with my Vista laptop to have some additional USB 2.0 ports and to easily get pictures off our Memory Stick and CompactFlash cards. while the unit works correctly on my wife's Windows XP laptop, it is not recognized on mine running Windows Vista.
Technical support was easy to reach and had some suggestions to solve the problem. It looks as though I may have to send the unit back to them for repair, though it is it still unclear whether this will fix the problem. I was told there are no drivers needed, everything is already included in Vista to use the hub.
Overall the unit is pretty small and offers all of the functionality I need. It if worked correctly I'd be thrilled with it. It does need to be plugged in, so making sure you have enough open power outlets near your computer is critical.
