This is Cool! September 17, 2008 I was looking for a way to capture notes and drawings from discussions I have with co-workers and customers. I didn't want the expense of a tablet computer, and the environment I work in wouldn't allow one anyway. I also wanted the freedom to free-hand with a pen or pencil instead of having to work through an interface that another software developer thinks is intuitive. This is it!
Other reviews say the pen is fat, and it is. It isn't that fat. It's about the size of a Sharpy marker pen. I also didn't notice the easily broken plastic components that others have talked about, of course I only used my fingers to put the pen back together after installing the battery.
I wish the batteries would charge when the tablet is connected to the computer via USB. The door that covers the extra pen refill and stylus point storage could be easier to open. I wish the included portfolio was a bit stiffer or that it didn't include the large pocket inside on the center of the side opposing the tablet itself because it is too tempting to put an external 2.5 inch USB drive and cabling into and that makes the entire package a bit bulky. I also had some difficulty installing the software, but I figured that out too. If the company is listening to the people using their product, all of this will improve with a little bit of time.
Once you review the included documentation using the Cyberpad is very easy. The inluded software packages do nothing but add value to this product. Using the included MyInk software I can extract drawings made during a working session, convert them into one of several common formats, and email them or save them with a few clicks of the mouse. I can also use the Cyberpad in environments where a computer isn't practical or allowed.
I brought this into my office the day after I received it in the mail. Within the next week 4 co-workers had already made a purchase of their own. At least 1 out of every 5 people I've shown it too say they want to get one. I carry the Cyberpad with me everyday.
A great gadget for technophiles August 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought one a couple of weeks ago, and I love it. The documentation is practically useless, so learning to use the Cyberpad was pretty much trial and error. Once I figured it out, though, I was delighted.
Cyberpad meets all my expectations March 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great product and a real attention getter as well. I have dabled in handwriting recognition a couple of times before with a Palm Smartpad and tablet PCs but this is actually better and not as cumbersome.
The software has not yet kept up with the hardware but the handwritting recognition is super. Even when I was certain I had scrawled out illegible script (per my wife), the cyberpad decoded it better than 80% of the time.
Handwritting is a much more fluid form of composition that typing. With the word processor, I feel I must get everything right in the draft and often miss some of the nuiances that I am apt to handwrite.
My only complaint is that it is still big. Next generation should be slimmer (especially the portfolio) and have a smaller pen. Buy this if you like new technology. If you are not willing to add a little effort for the thrill of something new, be patient. This is an up an coming technology that will be awsome.
Cyberpad-Reasonable Value for Price February 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Cyberpad is a reasonable value for the price.
Quality of the device is a little bit on the low side, but it is functional for most advertised purposes. It is ideal for taking notes, without the noise of a notebook keyboard - and without the risk of losing a tablet PC.
Two negatives -
The pen is terrible to use. The diameter is on the large side and the material it is made of does not provide for a comfortable grip.
An advertised feature of the tablet is it's ability to expand the limited internal memory through the use of an SD card (not supplied). Despite trying two different cards from SanDisk (the recommended supplier) and contacting the support number, no such luck. One card would not allow the tablet to turn on at all. The other card seemed to work fine, but after anything from 15 to 40 minutes, the tablet would shut-down and fail to save your work.
The best thing I ever bought. February 11, 2008 The Cyber Pad is one of the best envestments I ever made. I use it for work and now never loose any notes I take when talking to a customer.
