This Walkman phone includes the innovative "shake to shuffle" feature, which randomly chooses another song stored on your phone with just a flick of the wrist. This phone is also great for gaming, thanks to that built-in motion sensor that enables you to tilt the phone to control gameplay. Other features include a 3.2-megapixel camera/camcorder, Bluetooth 2.0 for handsfree devices and stereo music streaming, Memory Stick Micro (M2) expansion, access to personal email and instant messaging services, and up to 3.5 hours of talk time.

AT&T Service Options
This AT&T phone can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses the dual-band UMTS 850/1900 MHz network, and this phone is also compatible with 2100 MHz 3G networks (found in international territories). The AT&T 3G network provides download speeds ranging from 700 Kbps to 1.7 Mbps, and upload speeds ranging from 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps. This makes it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless multimedia services, and it gives you the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services. (For use outside the United States, an AT&T international data plan is recommended.)

In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. You'll also enjoy quad-band GSM connectivity, which allows you to make calls in more than 190 countries and access data applications in the more than 135 countries where AT&T offers international data roaming.

With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access AT&T's Video Share service, which enables you to send a live, one-way video stream to another compatible phone during a standard voice call. The service also allows you to switch the direction of the video stream during the same phone call. (Customers must be in an area served by the company's 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone.) A majority of users in the architecture, engineering and construction industries rated the ability to share live video through Video Share highly, according to research commissioned by AT&T. Video Share lets you see progress on a job site or review the day's work without having to drive from an office or other site to do so.

You can take advantage of the AT&T Navigator GPS software and service, a full-featured premium navigation application that includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps (additional charges applicable). AT&T Navigator offers several other features to make your commute more enjoyable and reliable, including mobile access to Yellowpages.com. Additionally, AT&T Navigator is the only mobile phone-based GPS service that provides integrated speech recognition for address entry and points of interest search.

With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access AT&T's Cellular Video (CV) service and the Internet while on the go. Cellular Video features content from CNN, The Weather Channel, iFilm, Comedy Central and exclusive premium content from HBO and much more. And you get access to AT&T Mobile Music, which enables you to buy tracks while on the, access the Napster and eMusic subscription music services, stream music video, discover what's playing with Music ID song-recognition software, and find out what's hot with The Buzz music news portal. (A MEdia Max subscription bundle is recommended for accessing AT&T's Internet, video, and music services.)

The phone has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's MEdia Net service enables you to receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more.

The integrated accelerometer lets you shuffle music by shaking and play games by tilting the phone.
Phone Features
The slider-style w760a features a top face with a 2.2-inch, 262K-color LCD screen (240 x 320-pixel resolution), five-way navigator (with music play/pause button in the center) and standard send/end and soft navigation keys. The phone slides smoothly up to reveal the alpha-numeric keypad. The phone has a 32 MB internal memory, which can be expanded via optional Memory Stick Micro (M2) media (up to 4 GB in size). The internal phonebook can store up to 1000 contact entries with space for up to 7 numbers per entry and support for picture and ringer ID.

This Walkman phone offers a full-function digital audio player that's compatible with MP3 and AAC files, and it includes Sony Ericsson's innovative "shake to shuffle" feature. With Shake Control activated, just flick your wrist and a vibration lets you know that the track has been changed--a new song from your current playlist is randomly selected and automatically played. Playback settings also include an equalizer, playlists, stereo widening, and shuffle and loop modes. This Walkman phone features MegaBass enhancement for added depth of sound, a flight mode that lets you keep listening to tunes with the phone's network connectivity turned off, and the PlayNow feature that enables you to download new music tones directly to the phone.

Sony Ericsson's SensMe technology is used to incorporate mood analysis into the track details, which allows you to create playlists that suit your mood. Select SensMe in the downloadable Sony Ericsson Media Manager software, and it will mood-analyze all MP3 files on the computer. When you transfer music from a CD or a PC to your phone using Media Manager, the tracks will automatically be analysed. Instead of selecting tracks for your next playlist, just select your mood.

With the W760, gaming is more fun than ever. The integrated accelerometer allows you to shake or tilt the W760a to simulate motion while playing video games, and dedicated A and B gaming buttons also allow extra control and interactivity. The intuitive Media User Interface rotates depending on how you?re holding the phone, so you can see everything you need at a glance. Auto rotate works for photos, videos and games.

This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity with EDR (enhanced data rate), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.

The built-in 3.2 megapixel camera captures stills and video--and playback of video or still pictures is only limited to the memory card size (or capped at 20 seconds for sending via MMS). You can choose from four resolution sizes and two quality settings for still photos, and it also features white balance and brightness adjustments, digital zoom (up to 3.2x), night mode, panorama, and multi-shot mode. It provides support for PictBridge technology so you can print your photos without the need of a PC (either using USB or Bluetooth). Video clips can be shot at up to QVGA resolution (320 x 240 pixels) at 30 frames per second (fps).

The phone also ships with a built-in email client with support for POP3 and IMAP4 protocols, while the included Access NetFront Web Browser allows you to surf full HTML web sites. It also supports RSS feeds, allowing you to use your phone to view up-to-the-minute news and other content from selected Web sites and blogs. Just subscribe to the feed and let it come to you. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

Other features include:

  • Flight mode allows you to safely use the non-wireless functions of this phone (such as music, games, or organizer functions) on an airplane during flight
  • Instant messaging via AOL, Windows Live, Yahoo!
  • Organizational tools: calendar, calculator, alarm clock, tasks, timer, notes, stopwatch
  • USB mass storage capabilities
  • Polyphonic and MP3 ringtones, vibrating alert
  • Speakerphone
  • Voice dialing and voice commands
  • Built-in FM radio

3 out of 5 stars Sony W760a - keypad backlight is serious defect   December 28, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I use iPhone, which offers the greatest overall mobile device experience (other than the AT&T voice network which is substandard compared to Verizon). I got this Sony Ericsson W760a for my wife (she didn't want iPhone). It looks very nice. However, there is a serious design defect in the keypad backlight. The buttons of 6, 9, # are barely visible, and the letters on them (if you need to text) are invisible. If you just dial, may be you can live with this defect, but if you need to text, it is dysfunctional.

4 out of 5 stars Nice phone, bad software, bad backlight on the keypad   December 21, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

the w760a rocks, it has nice red color, too bad the camera doesn't have focus; this makes the picture quality lose to another 2.0 MP camera with focus, for example w810
the features and the screen is nice... i like most of this phone features except:
1. the att software disabled many of the phone ability, such as ability to switch from 3G to GSM (3G EATs the battery really quick)
2 the SE shortcut button is replaced by the att button. In addition, the bad thing is sometimes u press the button while sliding the phone up. (u have to pay for the data usage! its not expensive though).
3. the ring tones cant use mp3 with size bigger than specific size and length, i don't remember exactly what the number is. its around 300 KB if im not wrong.
4. the keypad has defect on the backlight, i already check the att stores' phone and its the same. There is almost no light on keypad 9 and #, keypad 6 has half backlight.
the feeling when u press 123 with 456 and 789 and *0# are all different... 123 and *0# are similar

Also, the att is getting cheaper and cheaper everyday... they only give u the phone, a battery, a manual, and a charger! no memory card, no headset, usb cable, software cd, etc..

4 out of 5 stars Sony Ericsson w760a: Just hope you luck out!   December 18, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

I wasn't too interested in this phone to begin with, but after trying many others, and seeing Amazon's unbeatable price, I went for it. What I got was a mixed bag...

DISCLAIMER: Most of my reviews are complaints and gripes --stuff you won't hear from the manufacturer or dealer-- so don't take me as a pessimist. Anyone can tell you how GREAT it is. Take me as a realist, someone who's setting your expectations to a reasonable degree.

The phone software is a tad sluggish. Not horrible, but noticible. That Shazam (MusicID) software is AMAZING, but now I get the blank white screen whenever I try to use it. It shouldn't happen to you, but reading another review here, I noticed it happens on other programs on this phoen model as well.

Onward to things you should be able to change but cannot-- When you push any of the buttons, you can choose a sound-- a click, a tone, or silence. I like the click, but you CAN'T change the volume of it! You could be texting away in a car or something, and boy is it annoying! Same thing with the BG lighting timer for the screen and keyboard-- all default set at about 10-15 seconds. Also, you're stuck with nearly ALL the text as it is. No sizing options. Now why weren't any of these customisable? Not a major gripe here, but surprising.

I'm sure by the time people read this, I'd have figured it out. But you can minimize many of the programs and have them run in the background. That's great, but I have no idea how to MAXIMIZE them back to usable mode!! The user's manual is difficult to reference, so count that out. A feature that should be helpful, yet came off as perplexing...

The clock has 2 modes, small and large. Seeing the analog clock on any of the Themes is difficult, because the BG is animated, and doesn't project it very well. Something you have to see to understand. Something else that bugs me-- on the main screen, it lists your alarms set. Time and date. Do I need to see that?? It'd have been better if you just put an alarm bell icon at the top of the screen instead! Also, if you register Yahoo or another mail service provider, it won't tell you when a new mail comes in like me LG would. Slightly inconvenient, but maybe I'm a bit spoiled there. It may just be me, bu the battery time seems short too.

Finally, the aesthetic gripes. The volume rocker is on the right side of the phone, and is THIN! Like...thinner than a toothpick...and higher up than my previous phone. I'll get used to it eventually, but worth noting. You'll also notice that (unless I was just unlucky) most of the keys light up just fine. But the 3, 6, 9, and # barely light up, and the * key is really bright, and actually shines partly out of the frame! Like I said, maybe this is just my phone.

Okay, now that the negatives are done with, lets get to the good stuff. Colors are nice and bright, the camera quality is decent (better than my last LG) at 3.2MPs. Many of the menus and some of the keys are customizable. Definetely a plus. Texting is fairly easy, and the T9 software is easily navigatable. Keys are fairly large as well, and I didn't make many mistakes when typing a message. I really like the options available for volume, and it plays MIDIs real well (haven't gotten to MP3s yet since my memory card still hasn't arrived). Speakers are nice and loud, and offer a better stereo option (though volume is sacrificed). As stated in another review, it requires Sony Ericsson's own adapter/headset to listen to music. No standard jack. Sound quality was so-so on some calls, and good for others. Speakerphone, also, is good and loud, but a bit more staticy, though, what phone isn't?

Overall, it's not a bad phone, but it's got room for improvements. If you can deal with the above, and are loking for a nice non-touch screen MP3 player, it may sound like I hate it, but I don't. This is a good phone. Just hope you get one that's not buggy or has stray LED light leaking out from the * key!

4 out of 5 stars Great Phone ! Great Price !   December 1, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I received this phone from Amazon last week. And I am still going over all the cool functions. I owned a S.E. W580 before this one. So, i was already familiar with the walkman features. But, I was pleasantly surprised by this phones improvement (over the W580) in audio quality. I thought i would never say that, after being so satisfied with the W580. But, I can hear music parts of songs, on this phone, I have never heard before:-) And some of the songs were over 30 years old. And listened to MANY MANY times before. On Very good stereo equip. So, I thought I heard everything in these songs before. *BUT*! The output audio level is lower than the output audio level of the W580. The MEGABASS EQ is almost unnoticeable, compared with that of the LOUD W580. But, the quality of music on the W760, makes up for the slight deficiences in sonic output. The voice quaility on phone calls, is also very good. The 3G speed for internet and video access is FAST and CLEAR ! The SENSME feature is interesting. But cannot be used on PREVIOUSLY downloaded music:-( It could only be added, WHILE DOWNLOADING NEW MUSIC. So, the 900 plus songs I downloaded with my W580, onto a 4GB M2 memory card, does not have SENSME:-( I will have to DOWNLOAD ALL MY MUSIC AGAIN (From Media Manager @S.E.) To get the SENSME feature added to those songs. (I sill might do it. But. A few of the 130 CD's at a time.) I have the Red one. And ordered the Black rubberized plastic case. I like the contrast in those colors:-) I could go on and on about this phone. But, I will end it here, for now:-)
2 thumbs up to Amazon ! For offering this GREAT PHONE, as an upgrade with my AT&T service provider:-) And the price was right too ! (1 cent) lol
I was going to upgrade to this phone anyway ! And would have paid the AT&T or S.E. price to get it:-) Its that good a phone !

Anthony

4 out of 5 stars great phone, missing basic accessories   December 1, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

I switched from Verizon to ATT for roll-over minutes and free calls to my ATT landline. I like this phone b/c of the 3mp camera (although they could easily put 5 mp in a phone by now). I have a newborn and it's nice to always have a decent camera handy.

I also have a macbook, and with the bluetooth connection, transferring files is super easy. The reception is good, and the bluetooth also works well with my car (2006 G35 sedan), although, not as well as my older razr did.

The speakers on the phone are really good for such a small device. I put baby songs (the baby Coldplay and Baby U2 ensembles are worth buying) on it and put it in my baby's stroller for walks.

The FM radio is a nice touch, but the fact that you have to buy the headphones to use it is a major blunder by SE. They should include that with the phone, or better yet, put the antenna in the phone. I got the headphones for $8 online. I also bought a car charge and extra wall charger (I like to keep one at work and one at home) for $6 together, and a 4GB memory card for around $20. The proprietary memory stick is quite a bit more expensive than standard SDmirco cards, but still cheaper than they used to be.

So for 1 cent, plus about $40 in accessories, it's still a good deal.

Can anyone explain why the same phone costs $129 at ATT stores? I still haven't figured out the catch with buying on Amazon? Which is a good thing.
