Description ZZ Top, the "little ol' band from Texas", has enjoyed enormous success on a global scale since their breakthrough in the early seventies and then their groundbreaking albums in the mid-eighties. Now for the first time one of ZZ Top's legendary live performances has been filmed for simultaneous release on DVD & Blu-ray. The track listing spans their career from early tracks such as "Waitin' For The Bus", "Just Got Paid" and the classic "La Grange", through their eighties blockbusters including "Gimme All Your Lovin'" and "Legs" (complete with furry guitars!) and up to more recent hits like "Pin Cushion". Filmed in their home state of Texas in front of a wildly enthusiastic audience, this DVD & Blu-ray captures ZZ Top at their very best. Fantastic November 17, 2008 I have waited for a live ZZ Top DVD for decades. I love it.
Nice to get a live show from them, BUT... November 16, 2008 ...but it is easy to tell that they don't have the energy they once had. They play many of the songs at a slightly slower tempo than the usual. And it almost makes them sound like they are just going through the motions. But they aren't spring chickens anymore,so I guess I should cut them some slack.
Many of the major hits are covered, though hearing a few obscure tunes would have made for a nice setlist mix.
I love ZZ Top......... November 9, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
unfortunately, I do not love the sound mix on this. I would really like to hear this concert without the flatline audio. I was relieved to see others having the same trouble with this dvd...I thought it was me being overly critical, or my own equiptment's shortcomings. I found it almost impossable to watch. I was so excited to get this disc too!
BETTER THAN A LIVE CONCERT October 30, 2008 i SAY THAT BECAUSE OF THE CLOSE UPS. U DON'T SEE ALL THAT WHEN U ONE OF THOUSANDS IN A CROWD, EVEN CLOSE TO FRONT STAGE CENTER. i'VE SEEN ZZTOP LIVE IN CONCERT AND I ENJOYED IT IMMENSELY. NEVER THE LESS NOT HAVEING TO DEAL WITH THE CROWD PRESSING UP AGAINST U ON ALL SIDES AND STANDING IN LINE TO GET BEER OR TO PISS. THIS IS A MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE.
Lackluster .. October 23, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The overall performance is good but seems somewhat uninspired. The sound quality however is really lacking, there's no energy or sparkle to the sound. Very compressed and flat sounding. The end result is that it's pretty boring sounding. I love ZZ Top and I was really dissappointed with the disc because of the sound quality. I slipped Steely Dan's Two Against Nature in afterwards and it was like taking ear muffs off. I'm a semi professional musician and also run my own studio so I'm not without credentials as far as being able to judge a good recording.
