Product Description Rising from the ashes of Stonewall, British born vocalist John Lawton teamed up with the German band The German Bonds to form what would become Lucifer s Friend. Their 1973 self-titled debut is highly sought after by both Krautrock and Heavy Metal collectors for it s dark, heavy and sinister organ based hard rock, a la Uriah Heep (whom Lawton would join in 1976) and Deep Purple. An absolute must-have for early 70s hard rock enthusiasts.

Vintage mid-tempo heavy rock! November 10, 2008 Just got turned on to these guys. This reminds me of a cross between Atomic Rooster and Leaf Hound (which means a more remedial version of Deep Purple and Led Zep). What the hell were people smoking in the 70's that made them make such great hard rock? Is there any left? Can I have some?
The song "Ride The Sky" has a french horn part that sounds A LOT like Zep's "Immigrant Song." It's wild it came out a year before Zep 3. Crazy.
The only criticism I have is that the singers voice reminds me of Mickey Thomas at times. Lucifer's Friend was around long before, but sometimes it sounds like he's about to start belting out "Fooled Around And Fell In Love" or "Jane." But that's a small price to pay for vintage heavy rock.
Fans of Grand Funk Railroad, MC5, Captain Beyond should check out Mighty High...In Drug City.
Heavy Seventies Classic! October 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Often compared to ZEPPELIN and SABBATH, this release comes closest to Mk3/4 DEEP PURPLE, especially due to the Coverdale-esque vocals. Original recording had 8 tracks; catchy, riffy, hard, heavy pounders that soared and chugged. CD release includes 5 "bonus" tracks of a jarringly different style altogether. Tracks 1 - 8 earning every star in it's reviews, though.
"Ride In The Sky" rocks!
I have had this on vinyl for years, and finally bought it on CD. September 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this CD! If you are into Uriah Heep, you will like this CD!
OLDIE BUT GOODIE July 17, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this on vinyl back in the 70's and to this day still listen to it. I'd get it on CD but it's just too expensive. This is good old school hard rock as others have already stated. Worth it if you can find it for a reasonable price. I have heard some of their other stuff but I think this is their strongest release. [...]
Great album December 30, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A Masterpiece album and probably one of the first REAL hard rock albums that was, well hard. By the way "Ride the Sky" is the song that Led Zeppelin stole their "Immigrant song" from. Ride The Sky was written (1969) BEFORE their song. Go get this !!
