Amazon.com The Daredevil soundtrack provided a nice boost for this previously unknown quartet from Little Rock, Arkansas. Evanescence?s songs "My Immortal" and the imposing "Bring Me to Life" are clear standouts in the film, mainly because they work so well with the dramatic, eerie undertones of the storyline. They reappear here on the band?s debut, alongside a selection of similarly brooding tracks that evoke pensive artists like Tori Amos and the Cranberries. Vocalist Amy Lee has the kind of voice that can cause weeks of insomnia, but on songs like "Tourniquet" and "Haunted" she belies the music?s sinister mood with evenhanded spirituality, thoughtfully letting some light shine through the tempest. --Aidin Vaziri

Amy Lee!! January 7, 2009 First, I can't compliment this album and the band enough. While Amy Lee does not have the vocal control of (Catherine Nyland from Mortal Love or Sharon Den Adel from Within Temptation) she does have a beautiful voice. Her live vocals are not as good as her studio vocals. However, she was around 22 or 23 years old when Fallen was released. her live vocals may have improved significantly since that time.
Amy Lee has a soft, unique voice that fits well with the keyboards. Further, Evenascence is the best metal group that is currently played on U.S. radio. An added plus is the lack of "cookie monster growls" that too many bands use. Leaves Eyes has a male singer who growls in the background. I can tolerate this because Liv Kristine only uses his vocals sparingly. On the other hand, I have not heard any Amy lee song with a guy who sounds like cookie monster in the background-thank goodness.
This is a five star album
Love It! December 26, 2008 I absolutely love Evanescence and finally allowed myself to purchase this cd. My Immortal is one of my all time favorite songs. I also really like Bring Me To Life. All the songs are really good.
Great ! December 24, 2008 The CD is great, just enough metal to wake you up, but there is also a much softer side to it in Amy Lee's voice. I LOVE it.
Good Stuff! Best New Metal Album I've Heard in a Long Time... December 16, 2008 I'd pretty much given up on metal by the late 90's. I heard a song one day that was playing in the background of a television show. It had a solid groove, good rhythm guitar work, and a striking high soprano voice. The voice had a haunting quality that was both ethereal and intense.
After the show was over, the song was stuck in my head. I had no idea who it was. Then, one day, a couple of years later, the song resurfaced in my mind from nowhere. I just HAD to find out who it was. I didn't have much luck with internet searches of female metal singers. But I was finally able to remember the opening lyrics "How can you see into my eyes like open doors" or something to that effect. Another internet search on the lyrics, and voila! I had discovered the band Evanescence.
I bought the Fallen CD right here on Amazon, and have been enjoying it thoroughly. Her vocal style reminds me a bit of Tori Amos and Allison Krauss, but with a darkly intense twist. The guitars are big and punchy and the drums an interesting mix of metal and another style that I suppose is influenced by Hip Hop and/or Techno. The songs are well-written and instantly catchy.
My favorite songs from this CD so far are:
1) Bring Me to Life (the song that I heard on the TV show) 2) Going Under (very catchy and powerful) 3) Tourniquet (incredibly powerful and moving) 4) Imaginary (epic!) 5) Haunted (interesting use of dissonant harmony in a metal song)
I would strongly recommend that anyone who likes Metal give this album a chance. I've never owned an album with a female vocalist (at least not from the rock or metal genres), nor am I big fan of "gothic" rock (which is a label I've seen others apply to this disc, though I'm not sure why... perhaps because of the piano and choir). I usually listen to older metal bands like Metallica, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden. But again, I'd say you should give this album a chance. I doubt you'll be disappointed. It's quite good!
Beautiful Voice, Haunting Lyrics November 13, 2008 This is an amazing CD and my favorite band. Amy Lee (the lead singer) has a hauntingly beautiful voice. Her voice is like an angel but it fits witht the alternative rock style that this band is. The songs on this CD can be a little dark but I think most people will enjoy the songs and appreciate the lyrics. Every song on this CD is amazing, which is why I think the entire CD is worth the buy. You will not be disapointed. One similar artist is Flyleaf so if you have heard them and liked their music then you will definitely enjoy Evanescence.
