Great Receiver August 7, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought it to connect my PS3 and DirecTV H20 receiver together with my Samsung TV. I am really happy with the Samsung TV so I figured the Reciever would be a similar experience. I was upgrading from a Yamaha system I bought at Best Buy.
The sound clarity is actually really good and the controls and setup is easy to do. The fact that Amazon offered free shipping while everyone else wanted $80+ for that was awesome.
The first one I got from Amazon had an issue with the HDMI not working. I filled out the online form on Amazon to have it replaced and they shipped out a replacement ASAP and had a tag printed for the return.
Buying from Amazon...It's way better than Best Buy. I think I'll buy all my electronics from here now on :-)
A pleasure to set up and great sound! August 6, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I purchased this product to connect to a Samsung hdtv and a Samsung upconverting dvd player. The remote controls all three (because they are all samsung) and when I put my first dvd in it turned on the tv and chose the correct reciever setting without even pushing a button. I was pretty impressed by this.
Even though this is the first surround sound system that I have owned, it only took me about 45 minutes to set up. It still needs some tweaking, and I still need to hide the rear speaker cords, but I am very pleased with it so far. Nice design, looks sleek and elegant and the sound is awesome. I was glad that this system uses standard speaker wire (not plugs) so you can easily purchase more wire and run it around the edges of the room.
The size was larger than I expected on both the reciever itself and the sub so people with small rooms may want to double check the size specifications.
I would recomend this reciever to anyone because of the simple setup and great sound right out of the box. It also has the capability to be adjusted to odd shaped rooms with uneven speaker distances. It can later be expanded to 7.1 surround (blu-ray) with the purchase of another set of speakers.
Okay for the money - needs a smarter remote. July 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this along with a BD-P1400 (blu-ray), LN46A550 (tv) and a Scientific Atlanta 4250HD (stb) as a midrange system for the bedroom. The prices were from a Canada Day (July 1) special at Future Shop, - 480 (ht) 1500 (tv), 150 (blu-ray), 200 (stb). I snagged some HDMI cables from monoprice.com instead of some monster cables that would have been near the price of the HT-AS720.
I used HDMI cables to connect the STB and DVD to the receiver, and another longer HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV. Very easy and straight forward. The sound is fine for a system this price, and the TV picture also no complaints, the DVD is very slow to load discs but once it gets going the 1080p image is stunning. Lastly the STB's universal remote (atlas 5 button) will not recognize the either the DVD or receiver. That was a supprise.
I also did not expect that the Samsung components would not work well as a team, even with Samsung's proprietary anynet+ enabled. For example the HT-AS720 has a DVD button, but will not control the BD-P1400.
Expect to shell out another $300 on a Harmony remote unless you actually enjoy having to use 4 remotes to watch TV or a DVD, and change the volume and channels.
Exactly what I was looking for!!! May 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm a movie enthusiast, so blu-ray was my dream come true.
Got a 52" 1080p philips lcd flat screen, a PS3 blu ray "player" and now the icing on the cake, the ht-as720. I cannot express how truly impressed I am with this home theater in a box. I've listened to expensive systems that sound nearly identical to the as720!
I set it up via HDMI to my hdtv and the PS3, without a single problem... not sure whats up with those having issues. I've played several blu ray titles as well as standard def, and my home theater is almost more than I hoped for. Not to mention I bought the as720 for $375 open box at a local retailer. If your into watching your sci fi flicks like your at a theater, then don't hesitate, get the as720, you'll appreciate the sound!
Subwoofer Issue April 29, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I initially belileved that the subwoofer had stop working, but after further research on the web I discovered that if you change the settings of the front speakers from smalll to large, the subwoofer becomes inoperable. Meaning, the sub off or on option will not work, and the sub will not be used to distribute sound. I change the setting back to small and the system works awesome now. Unfortunately, when I contacted Smasung customer support, they had know recommendation to remedy this problem other than sending it in for repairs. My advice for anyone wanting to adjust the volume on the front speakers would be to use the level option.
