Amazing color reproduction

The incredible black reproduction of a Panasonic High-Definition Plasma TV results in impressive contrast and beautiful, natural colors. So you'll get warm, accurate skin tones, gorgeous greens, breathtaking blues and vivid reds. For color that's as rich and bold as life itself, look to a Panasonic Plasma TV.

Consistent brightness from any angle

A Panasonic Plasma combines anti-glare and anti-reflection technology with the natural light-emitting properties of plasma, to give you a super-wide viewing range with a crisp, beautiful image from almost any angle.

Smooth, graceful motion

When you're watching sports or movies with fast-motion graphics, you want a TV that can keep up with the action. With over 900 lines of moving picture, self-illuminating plasma displays eliminate afterimages in fast-action scenes. So whether you're watching a sporting event or an action-packed movie, you'll always get the most impressive viewing experience possible.

1,000,000:1 Contrast

The Panasonic's Real Black system (a pre-discharge suppression system) and improved panel production processes combine to reproduce outstanding blacks with superb contrast. Each image is richly expressive, from bright scense, like scorching desert landscapes, to dark cave scenes. Compare the image produced by conventional HDTV on the left to the Real Black image produced on the right

More Colors

Viera HDTVs support the xvYCC color profile (Extended YCC Colorimetry for Video Applications), or "x.v. color" for short. Standard RGB color space allows the display of a portion of the colors that are viewable to the human eye. The next generation "xvYCC" color space actually offers an available range of colors that exceeds what human eyes can recognize.
  • Next-generation "xvYCC" color space supports 1.8 times as many colors as existing HDTV signals
  • Lets HDTVs display colors more accurately
  • Enables displays with more natural and vivid colors

deep color eliminates visible color banding

Deep Color

Where x.v. color expands the available range of colors your HDTV can display, Deep Color increases the number of colors your HDTV can display within that range, for smoother transitions from color to color.
  • Lets HDTVs and other displays go from millions of colors to billions of colors
  • Eliminates on-screen color banding, for smooth tonal transitions and subtle gradations between colors
  • Enables increased contrast ratio
  • Can represent many times more shades of gray between black and white.

Connectivity

Viera flat panel HDTVs interact with an array of high-definition devices and services, making it easy for consumers to access and enjoy content as never before. As of 2008, Viera Link is compatible with Onkyo and Yamaha home theater systems.
SD Cards Videos and stills recorded on SD cards can easily be viewed via the SD slots on Panasonic Blu-Ray Disc players and Viera HDTVs.
Viera Link Viera Link means easy connectivity via HDMI cables. Finally, consumers can easily operate their Blu-Ray Disc players, DVD recorders and home theater systems with a single remote control device.

long life

Long Life

Panasonic plasma panels are rated to last 100,000 hours, which is about 30 years of regular or 11 years of non-stop usage before the brightness of the display is halved.

Blu-Ray disc player

Get Full HD with Blu-Ray Disc Players

A Panasonic 1080p plasma television is able to render 1920x1080 pixels, but standard DVDs have a resolution of just 720x480. Blu-ray discs output true 1080p High-Definition resolution and have a storage capacity ten times greater than standard DVDs, so no pixel gos to waste.

5 out of 5 stars Right Product for breaking into the HD Market   November 23, 2008
The Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U does the job with a very bright, clear picture all the way around. There are plenty of ports and connection options. This TV can take in audio and spit it out, allowing you to plug in your devices with HDMI or Coax without worrying about how the sound will get to your sound system.
For those of you who aren't picky about the life of your TV, you can change the color of the 4:3 bars on either side of the TV from gray to black.
The ability to plug in a standard SD card from your camera is much more useful than you think:
You know when you are out for the day, come home, and want to show your sweetheart the weird lizard you saw, but don't want to get out the Camera cable? Put the camera card right into the TV for a clear picture!

The pros: 3 HDMI ports, plenty of connection options, 720p is more than enough for this size TV, Burn-in reduction tools, reasonable price for a big-screen HD, fairly light for the size.

The cons: It's Plasma: Burn in IS an issue. Awkward menu screens, non-sense presets, cuts off sound output when using Scrolling Bar (burn in prevention).

This is one of the best TVs on the market for what it is -- Panasonics are reliable, and this television is on-par with any 720p screen on the market.

5 out of 5 stars Soild Plasma TV   November 23, 2008
This TV is a great value for it's price, and since i've had it i haven't had any problems. My frined has a 50" 1080p and other than the noticeable size differece you can't tell mines 720p and his is 1080p. If i were to do it all over again i would've still chosen this one. The price for the 50" are too high and the difference between 720p and 1080p is minimal if exsistant.

3 out of 5 stars be very careful   November 20, 2008
I loved the TV itself. But It was delivered with missing parts that i had to attempt to get from the manufactuer. The seller was no help. I will not purchase electronics online again impossibe to tell if your getting new, used, refurbished or returned items and once you get it with missing parts you suffer as the buyer.

5 out of 5 stars Very pleased   November 16, 2008
Shipping by TAF was prompt and within promised window, with evening delivery. Both the box and TV have hand grips. Pedestal assembly easy. TV weighs less than a CRT half its screen size! Actually fits a built-in space that seemed suitable for nothing bigger than a 37", until I carefully considered all the measurements.

Instructions in clear English (or you can learn equivalent Spanish and French). Assembled in Mexico, rather than China. Remote control is very well balanced. Buttons "fall right to hand," but are not designed for fat fingers. Frame has the shiny black finish of a grand piano.

The picture is beautiful compared to a standard analog tube, even before HD service. Text and scrollers are really sharp. No screen-lag in action scenes. Regular DVDs played on an upconverting player are smashing at 720p, and could hardly improve on a 1080i or 1080p TV (Blu-Ray discs would be a different matter). Anti-glare protection is somewhat effective. Three different wide-screen modes for use when viewing regular 4:3 shows (two of them make everyone look like big, ah, linemen).

4 out of 5 stars Solid TV   November 13, 2008
I was given this TV as a gift - man, what a gift. It's a beautiful specimen. Not too huge, just a sleek, standard HDTV. I am not really blown away by the incredible picture - although it's crisp and much clearer than normal tv. It's great, don't get me wrong. But i'm not sure it's really improved my overall television viewing experience. But i digress - it's a great tv, picture is mighty fine, but i did have a really bad experience with the delivery. The folks that J&R hired to deliver the tv - Urban Express - did a crap job. I was supposed to get the white glove service - where they delivery the tv and also hook up to your cable and install the tv, etc - but instead, got something quite different. The 2 guys come in, they take the tv out of the cardboard box, attach the base, and place the tv on my tv stand. As they start to leave, i ask them if they can help me hook up/connect the TV and make sure the HD portion works to maximum effectiveness (because this was the service we paid extra for - delivery and white glove service). Well, long story short, they said sorry, can't help you, that will be an extra $168 or something. I quizically say ok, well thanks but no thanks, and they take off. So - idiot that i am - i spend 25 minutes trying to set up the damn tv, with no luck, and then lo and behold the guys come back to apologize and say they were really responsible for setting up and connecting the tv. They come back inside, futz around for 10 minutes, and proclaim "sorry - we don't know how to set this up." They say they have to get a "specialist" to help. 1 hour later, they're back with the new guy, who takes 30 seconds to get everything up and running. So the delivery guys really sucked in my opinion. Ha - all good now!
