Amazon.com Product Description Enjoy a breathtaking viewing experience when watching television programming and DVD movies with the 50-inch Akai PT50DL24 DLP HDTV. It has a built-in ATSC tuner that pulls HD signals right from the airwaves (via an optional antenna), and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. You can also hook up an HDMI-capable cable or satellite set-top box and enjoy the the highest standard of high-definition audio and video--with a single cord connection. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. DLP (which stands for Digital Light Processing) uses an optical semiconductor to recreate source material with a fidelity analog systems can't match. While other technologies lose a certain amount of light in transit, the microscopic mirrors in a DLP projection system bring more light from lamp to screen. It also features better color uniformity over time--no burn-in, screen aging or color-shifting possible. It's the leading display technology for products like small portable conference room projectors and professional venue entertainment systems. The PT50DL24 features a 1280 x 720-pixel resolution, true 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, 1000 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating, and amazing 2500:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) A 3D Y/C comb filter separates brightness and color signals better in 3D domain to eliminate cross-color, cross-luminance and dot-crawl distortion. It performs field-by-field comparisons of the television image to accurately separate the color from the black-and-white information and remove both horizontally and vertically hanging dots, as well as dot crawl, resulting in a razor sharp image. This set also performs automatic 3:3/2:2 pulldown detection--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. Other features include dynamic black level expansion, digital noise reduction, four picture modes, color temperature controls, and an anti-glare micro fine pitch screen. This set includes two built-in stereo speakers that produce 10 watts per channel (for 20 total watts of power), and it offers a sound equalizer, Dolby Digital output (via the digital optical audio output), and five sound modes. It includes the following connection options: - AV Input: Front x1, Rear x2 (RCA)
- S-Video Input: Front x1, Rear x2
- Component Input: Rear x2 (RCA)
- HDMI Input: Rear x2
- RF Input: Rear x2
- VGA Input: Rear x1 (D-Sub 15P)
- DVI Audio Input: Rear x1 (RCA)
- Digital Audio Output: Rear x1 (Optical)
- Monitor & Sound Out: Rear x1 (RCA)
Tech Talk HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats--standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV). Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound. What's in the Box DLP HDTV, remote control (with batteries), printed operating instructions

Great TV for the price June 26, 2008 Let's be real, if you've not buying one of the high end brands (sony, samsung), you're decision is being swayed by price. And for the price, you probably can't get a better tv than this. The image quality is great, the available range of connections is good, the sound is about is good as you can get without buying a full surround sound stereo. Heck, it's even made using samsung parts. If you want a great hd experience, don't need a thin tv, and aren't the type of audio/visual enthusiast that will obsess over spec sheets and spend the better part of a day calibrating a tv's colors settings than out of the box you'll love this tv.
Worst Purchase Ever January 26, 2008 I purchased this POS Feb 2007 and with 45 days the TV would shut off after 5 minutes of watching. I called Akia and the have the WORST customer service ever, they had me wait a week for to see if they had a service tech in the area (San Antonio, TX) which they didn't so they have me wait another 2 weeks to see if they can find someone to come out and fix it. I called back and they said they couldn't find anyone to fix it and they couldn't do anything except transfer me to Samsung. Samsung couldn't do anything since it was an Akia TV. This went on for 3 weeks when I called the store where I purchased it to give it back to them. They had a service center and they came out in two days and fixed it. Now I get up this morning and turn the TV on and it stays on for 3 seconds then shuts down. Big games this weekend and I have no bib screen to watch them on. DO NOT BUY ANY TV FROM AKIA OR SAMSUNG SINCE THEY ARE THE SAME COMPANY AND DON'T BUY FROM CONN'S APPLIANCE EITHER.
Nice TV August 1, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Is this he best TV on the market? No. But it is worth every dollar of its price tag. I purchased this TV last december because I wanted a HDTV but was on a budget. I saw this one and thought about it for a while. When the store threw in the stand for free I went ahead and bought it. I hooked my XBOX 360 to it and it looked amazing. HD movies and channels look great on this TV. I love playing video games on this TV. I would like to say something about how regular channels look on it but since I live in some ghetto apartments and the cables in the building are over 20 years old, the signal coming out of the cable jack sucks! I am thinking about going with Verizon FIOS to get a better signal. If I do I will update this review. Hope this review was somewhat informative about this product.
