Wonderful Until the Black Stripe Appeared July 8, 2008 Samsung HL61A750 61-Inch 1080p LED Powered DLP HDTV New 61" LED DLP HL61A750 Samsung, worked great for two weeks, then 2" wide horizontal black stripe appeared suddenly in the middle of the screen and remained without change, all channels - power down and unplug did not fix. I have returned the TV to Amazon and have received a prompt refund. I probably will try again on the slightly smaller 56" LED when it comes out next month, or reorder the 61" when the price drops to the level of this last purchase.
I wish I could paste my picture of the screen with the black stripe here - it overwhelms the screen and is not remotely tolerable.
It's sad, but Samsung quality control just failed on this one.
Samsung HL61A750 61" LED Powered DLP July 8, 2008 Replaced a Samsung 40" LCD with this HL61A750 Samsung. It took all of 10 minutes to place new HDTV on existing 60" TV stand and plug in HDMI cables from existing electronics along with the power cord. Turned TV on per Quick Start Guide and watched a NASCAR race. Very little tweaking required.
HDTV channels look fantastic, some look almost like 3D with fantastic, realistic color.
Have both Blu-ray and HD-DVD players hooked up to this new set. We can't believe the picture from both players, including Standard DVD's.
This Samsung HL61A750 has a better picture than large screen Sony, LG and Mitsubishi sets several of or neighbors just purchased. They told us so when they watched the night NASCAR race at Daytona this past Saturday evening as our guests. The cars racing under the lights at Daytona looked like you could reach out and touch them. Great picture!!!! Absolutely no blur with fast moving objects.
Best bang for the buck with free shipping and "white glove delivery". The truck pulled up to our house 4 days early. The delivery guys carried the big box into the house and unpacked the monster. Inspected the TV with me and were gone. Took about 30 minutes and they were very careful.
This unit is very quiet and the screen is perfect. No pesky expensive bulbs to replace either!
Watching IMAX DVD's such as Super Speedway and others on this set will blow you away. Especially with a good sound system.
We are very happy with this Samsung LED powered DLP HDTV.
Great quality picture and good software for menuing July 7, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This seems to my non-expert eyes as one of the best dlp type tv's out there. What was really nice on top of that is that the menus are set up in a very simple and functional way, which lets you navigate to what you want immediately.
Superb set, best combo of size and quality for the money July 6, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered this set after doing lots of research, (both in store and online) which I strongly advise everyone to do on any flat screen television purchase.
In a local store the TV screen looks a bit darker than the Plasma and LCD sets that surround it, and the viewing angle is significantly worse than the flat panel competitors. However, after calculating the maximum viewing angle I would be observing it from in my house, I decided that this would not be too much of an issue. The accuracy of color reproduction seems to be much improved on this model over the previous Sammy DLPs which are not LED backlit. It also looks much truer than LCDs, and on par with the top plasmas to my eyes.
White Glove delivery arrived 5 days sooner than the shipping company estimated, and within their delivery time frame of 11-3 (although at the very very end of it) They set it up on my stand, and waited while I hooked up the HDMI Cable to assure that it produced a picture with my HDTV Cable.
I set the picture to "Standard" and let me tell you I was very impressed by the picture quality without any tweaking of custom settings. Blacks are quite accurately produced, and I didn't notice any glare whatsoever even though I have large windows in my living room that admit lots of sunlight. Plenty of HDMI and component connections for all your Bluray, PS3, DVD, XBOX360 or whatever as well. And thankfully the screen is plenty bright, which was my #1 concern after seeing it in stores.
I turned on a baseball game in HD, and the picture in my house is as good as any I have ever experienced (I also have a 37" Samsung LCD and the picture quality of this 61" DLP actually looks better). This set definitely looks much better in home than in store, no question. Also much less motion judder with fast action than I was expecting which is great since I watch tons of sporting events. Even Standard Definition channels look fine on this TV, which is unusual for a big HDTV set.
As for the sound quality, on par with other HDTV sets which means really crappy. Everyone knows these TVs all have poor sound quality, so plan ahead and have a Home Theater system ready to go which makes the overall viewing experience much better.
After a week of viewing, I would give this TV a 9.5 out of 10 rating. The only negatives being poor sound quality and a smaller serviceable viewing angle than competing technologies that doesn't even affect me.
For the price of this DLP you could only get about a 46" LCD or Plasma with a picture that would compare. In my opinion that makes it a no brainer to go for the 61" DLP. The extra screen size really makes a difference in relieving eye strain anywhere past 10 feet away, as the picture is so huge you can be 30 feet away in a different room and have no problem at all reading the bottom line on ESPN or seeing the score of a game. Awesome!!! Trust me look no further, as of July 2008 there is no better TV for the money unless you will be watching from extreme viewing angles off to the side of the screen.
A few side notes: This TVs LED backlighting that replaces the bulb and color wheel on old DLPs is reported to reduce the "rainbow" effect that some viewers experience, and end the need for replacing bulbs (which will run you about $[...] every 3 years for non LED DLPs). Also this TV is "3D Ready" which won't do anything for you now, but future proofs it for new technologies already being developed.

And finally the Bush 60" Black Metal with Black Glass TV stand looks like it was built for this monster TV (quite a sexy combo) and assembles in about 30 minutes
Samsung 61 DLP July 6, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I did a great deal of research and this is an excellent value. Less than half the price of a similar size plasma. I have a 42 inch plasma and the picture difference between the two is indistinguishable. A fantastic value for the dollar if you have the space. Better than I expected.
