Product Description Superior technology from a single disc DVD player. Sony's DVP-NS90V single disc DVD player packs three impressive technologies that enhance your movie and music experience. Sony's Precision Drive 3 System feature corrects warped disc's response for fewer image errors by adjusting the lens rather than the entire optical block for more accurate source playback. Other features such as the Precision Cinema Progressive Technology detect image changes at the pixel level instead of at the scan line level like most traditional DVD players do. By measuring algorithms, the DVP-NS90V adjusts for pixel behavior resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are virtually free from motion artifacts. The DVP-NS90V also offers MP3 Playback3, when using MP3 encoded discs, so you can select the perfect music folder to round out your day.

Precision Drive 3 System Past generations were only able to compensate for warped discs by moving the entire optical block, which took more time and limited the amount of correction possible. Sony's new Precision Drive 3 system simplifies the process by moving the lens-instead of the entire optical block-for faster and more accurate error correction. Precision Cinema Progressive Technology Other DVD players detect image changes at the scan line level-Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the pixel level. The picture is more faithful to the source-whether film or video-because separate, optimized algorithms are used to handle the differing pixel behavior. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are virtually free from motion artifacts. MP3 Playback Playing MP3 Music on a Sony DVD player is easy. Just insert an MP3 encoded disc and press MENU. A blue screen pops up to display your folders. Scroll down the list using the remote or front panel cursor control to select the folder you want. The green files screen pops up to show the files in the selected folder. Select the file you want to hear and you're done. Finding music couldn't be easier.

Works great when it works August 5, 2008 I received this player for my b-day a year ago. Starting about 6 months ago, it has stopped reading some discs if there were scratches on the disc (the discs could be read by 3 computer DVD drives worth a third of the money). It seems to have gotten pickier as time has gone by. When it does work, the picture and sound quality are great, but that is only about 60% of the time right now.
Sony Upgrading DVD player May 6, 2008 I paid a bit more for this DVD player, but results have been well worth it! Picture quality is excellent and I like the pause feature--which really holds the scene until I'm ready to resume. Controls are relatively simple and everything works as promised. A friend bought one at my recommendation and is likewise very satisfied with it.
Great Player...Awesome Picture... March 28, 2008 I recently purchased the Sony DVP-NS90V to replace my "slow and clumsy" Toshiba HD-A1 (Blue-Ray won). This is a great player that accompanies my Sony KDL-40V2500 LCD TV very well. The picture is just as good if not better than the old Toshiba I had. I did not really notice any slow loading problems, but as you know, I was used to the Toshiba. The picture is awesome via the HDMI hook-up. I am very happy with the purchase made. Another great product from Sony.
Great alternative to choosing Blu-ray or HD-DVD February 13, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
For me, this product was a great hedge: it was a very cost-effective and high-quality way of not choosing a side in the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD standards war. I recently bought a 37" Samsung LCD TV (720p) and it was clear that I wasn't getting the full visual punch of HD with my old DVD player. The research I did said that if you have an LCD smaller than 50", you can't see a difference between 720p and 1080i; furthermore, Blu-Ray or HD-DVD are apparently only worth it above 50", so you also didn't need to lock yourself into a standard that could die in a couple years like Beta. An upscaling DVD (like this one) would work fine. And, I'm happy to say, it looks great. I use it for movies, and they are really clear (I sometime pause it just to see the great picture quality), and the sound is terrific, too. So, for ~$150, I'm getting the full HD value out of my new TV, and I'm not worried that one format will die and leave me holding the bag. This is a great choice for getting an HD picture and not bothering with the standards war.
Excellent Machine !! January 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very satisfied!! Had it for two years and works flawlessly. Plays all formats dvd or cd.HDMI works like a charm ,user friendly remote, audio in all formats plus audio/video sync. mode up to 100 ms can be very useful.
Annoyingly slow loading of discs but minor drawback compared to all the pro's of this machine. Definitely worth the money.
