Amazon.com Product Description
Get affordable high-resolution images on a standard 4:3 ratio screen with Apex's GB-4308 projection set. This 43-inch monster is ideal for DVD viewing, from its progressive-scan component-video inputs (for use with a compatible DVD player) to its four-line comb filter and velocity-scan modulation technology. A progressive-scan DVD player output, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at this set's picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. The GB-4308's 2D Y/C four-line comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

In the audio department, BBE sound simulates surround sound through two channels, either the set's or an external pair. When listening through external speakers, you can still control the volume right from the remote control after connecting the set's variable audio outputs to an amp or receiver. The set offers two component-video inputs (one for standard component-video, one for progressive-scan), two S-video inputs, one RF input (compatible with antennas and older VCRs), two rear AV inputs, and one set of front AV inputs.

3 out of 5 stars not bad for the price   December 23, 2007
Had this tv for 4 years and I can't complain, considering how inexpensive it was. 480P is a little too dark. And the bottom inch of the screen gets cut off.

1 out of 5 stars Stay away, far away.   December 14, 2006

I do not expect things to last forever, but when they fail they should be able to be repaired...
I guess I've had it better than most, my Apex 43 lasted 3 years. My biggest complaint is that each time you turn on the set, you must select the input you are using. My set was connected to a cable box via a home theater system. Every time I turned on the tv I had to pick up the tv remote and push the input button 4 times. Most tvs stay on the selected input through a power-down.
My tv has failed and can't be repaired due to unavailability of parts. The TV did work great for 3 years. The picture was crisp and clear. I never used the speakers or the tuner, so I don't know how they functioned. My manual stated that the display was capable of 720P resolution. When I tuned to an HD channel on my cable box, the picture was considerably better.
The TV cost me $200 a year to own and now $110 in diagnosis/transport, only to find out that it can't be fixed. I think I will cut my losses and look for something else. My advice, Spend twice the money and be ten times as happy.

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY APEX PROJECTION TV!   November 17, 2005

I know, I know, I read the reviews but it was such a good price for such a big tv, I couldn't resist.

In the first few months we had problems with what looked like fingerprints from the inside of the screen. I could never get anybody at Apex to help by phone or web (no return calls, no live people, the one very nice woman who I did talk to couldn't find anybody in my area other than 2 companies that when I called for an appointment told me they don't work on Apex because you can't ever reach the company and it's impossible to get parts)then the fingerprints just went away.

Everything was okay until the week before the warranty expires (not that the warranty is worth anything) then it just stopped working - blue screen with lines across it. Every repairman we called chastised us for buying such a bad brand and repeated the earlier response - we don't work on Apex because nobody answers the phone and you can't get parts.

Bargain hunter that I am, it takes a lot for me to say this: DON'T SPEND YOUR MONEY, no matter how good the deal is on this!

2 out of 5 stars Sure, it is cheap, but quality justifies the price   February 8, 2005

I have own one of these for about 1 year now. When I first I got it, I was really happy. a big tv for less than $600 bucks. After I used it for 1 month, it stopped working. No image. Trying to find customer service number, took forever, but finally find it somewhere hidden. Called, took forever, and got one of local authorized repair center to pick up the tv. After 2 weeks of repair, got it back. Ever since, I have little problem here and there, but still exceptable, afterall, I only pay less than $600 for this. I would not buy another Apex tv. Quality is really bad in my opionion. Out of focus in the corners, color is off, and unstable sound.

2 out of 5 stars BASICALLY YOU ARE BUYING A TV FOR ONE YEAR   December 16, 2004

I got this tv, well the 51" GB-5108 version, (same thing), and up until today I have been extatic. Got it for 588 on a supersale last Nov, the black friday weekend. Got it delivered a few times because the first two sets weren't good. After that fiasco I was pleased with a large cheap tv with a great picture quality. Now a year has gone by and the convergence has suddenly been all messed up. Based upon reviews of these tvs, this will happen on just about all of them after 6 months to a year. If it lasts more than that, you got the needle in the haystack. Get the warranty, you will need it. Expect your tv to break on a moments notice. Honestly, KNOWING that the tv will break, you are probably better off investing in a better unit. Or buy this one cheap, get a warranty and expect to fix it every few months. Your choice.
