Learn More | Samsung?s Series 6 marks the first appearance of TOC (Touch of Color) design in the 2008 LCD HDTV line-up.Inspired by designs from the automotive and fashion industries, Samsung?s unique unique Transparent and Opaque Color molding process creates a clean, smooth finish infused with a hint of a translucent color during the manufacturing process for an ultra-sleek appearance. | | | Up-to-the-minute access to weather, news, sports and stock information is just a cable and a click away through the HDTV?s Ethernet port and new InfoLink RSS service. An all-new user interface with digital contents management guide provides intuitive navigation and access to both internal and external content. | | This technology doubles the frame rate from 60 to 120 frames per second (120Hz LCD panel) without repeating the same image to make more frames. Instead, the TV intelligently calculates the ?middle? image between frame A and frame B and inserts it in between (Auto Motion Plus 120Hz processor), making a fluid transition from one frame to the next. | | | Samsung enhances the clarity of select LCD HDTVs by replacing the light-diffusing plastic face of traditional LCD HDTVs with a natural black panel with a clear anti-glare shield. Reduced reflection of external light creates a new dimension in image clarity, highlighting black and darkened areas, enabling vibrant, more compelling colors and a brighter, clearer picture. Black will never again appear grayish. Black details will show in vivid black even in dark scenes. The latest version of Samsung?s breakthrough super clear panel technology makes colors appear more vibrant and blacks even deeper than ever. Enhanced films reduce glare and optimize off-angle viewing. | | | 50,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio will give you a picture better than you ever thought possible, with whiter whites, blacker blacks and a nearly infinite subtlety of gradations in between. As two of the most important determining factors in overall picture quality, contrast and brightness levels achieve new heights in this latest generation LCD panel. Samsung?s new LCD TV?s give the most stunning realistic picture quality ever. | | Full HD, or 1080p, contains 1.5 times more scanning lines than conventional HD TVs. More scanning lines mean more pixels, more details and a better picture. The new Samsung LCD TV with resolution that is approximately 2 times greater than conventional HDTVs, creating the most perfect picture imaginable. Samsung?s 1080p panel uses a new high-speed liquid crystal to cut response time to 4ms. The fast response time, coupled with Samsung?s Auto Motion Plus 120Hz motion blur reduction technology dramatically reduces motion blur and judder. | | | DNIe? The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine. This exclusive Samsung technology dramatically improves the picture by enhancing the contrast, detail, white balance and reduces. | | The NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) has established the color standards all TVs in America try to meet. And typical LCD TVs only meet about 72% of this standard. Samsung LCD HDTVs use Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp backlights to give you 92% coverage of the NTSC standard, ensuring truer, more breathlessly vivid colors. Samsung?s exclusive Wide Color Enhancer technology delivers more brilliant colors, even in bright areas of the picture where blues and greens are washed out on conventional screens. The system displays wider color reproduction, showing you truer colors ? the fresh green of spring foliage, the intense blue of the summer sky. | | | | | | To make the Series 6 a true entertainment hub for any home, Samsung has incorporated advanced HD connectivity and networking capabilities that expand the HDTV?s functionality. A wide variety of multimedia devices can be connected to the set through any one of the four Simplay compliant HDMI 1.3 inputs (including one on the side), and the handy HDMICEC feature lets you control all your CEC-enabled peripherals using just one remote. Connect HD digital devices like disc players, game consoles, and satellite dish components into the 2 rear connections and use the side-mounted input for cameras, camcorders, and laptops. HDMI is the best performing interface for displaying an HD source on an HDTV. | | You already know something about digital living. There?s the TV and digital video recorder in your family room. (And another set in your bedroom.) You have a PC and digital printer in your office, along with a network attached storage device. And you?ve copied all your music onto your portable music player and haven?t had to open a CD case for years. But getting them to talk to each other can be pretty tough. Why is it still so difficult to send digital content from one device to another? Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a collaboration of the world?s leading consumer electronics, PC and mobile companies that has created design guidelines for a new generation of products that can work together ? no matter the brand. Think for a moment about all of the photos "locked away" on your home PC that you wish you could access while entertaining your friends and family. Now, thanks to DLNA enabled devices, a DLNA-enabled PC can be accessed from the comfort of your living room or family room via a DLNA-enabled HDTV, where you can enjoy your memories with friends and family, without having to deal with the hassle and non-intuitive "PCexperience". Or, say you recently downloaded your daughter?s birthday party video from your digital camcorder to your PC. Now you want to share it with your parents who are visiting. Without DLNA, you probably have to burn a DVD of the video or hook up the camcorder to the TV. With DLNA, you can just use your TV?s remote to call up the video on your TV. That?s it. | | Samsung?s Super Patterned Vertical Alignment (SPVA) panel provides a 178-degree viewing angle from all four axes | TruSurround is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including internal television speakers and headphones. It is fully compatible with all multichannel formats up to 5.1 channels. High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the two hidden, downward-firing side-mounted 2.2-channel dome speakers built into the TV. SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass. TruSurround XT audio also adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience. - Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.
- TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.
- The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.
Stereo broadcast reception is offered for MTS and SAP with 181-channel capacity. A sound leveler keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing. | With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get. - Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
- Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Excellent product..excellet service from Amazon October 15, 2008 I have been in the market for a top of the line HDTV for some time. Did my research, looked at TV's at the store and thought the Samsung 52" was the best choice. Was not sure about buying a big ticket item like this on-line from Amazon but their price was very competitve and the service had been good in the past.
Couple of things:
- Amazon service has been superb, easy ordering and the TV was at my house within 5 days. Delivery guys set it up, were on time and courteous. - TV picture is incredible. The colors are so vivid it almsot takes some getting used to, its that clear and defined. - Set up took all of ten minutes. Easy to configure and operate.
Only downside is speaker quality. For a picture that good you need decent sound. The internal TV speakers are barely audible and the sound quality is poor. Buying $50 speakers and attaching solves the problem.
In summary, great TV, great price and service from Amazon! Impressive...
Great TV and Great Price from Warehouse Deals October 15, 2008 I bought an open box unit from Amazon Warehouse Deals for $1604 and about $68 shipping. I was a little nervous about buying something used and repackaged in a new box, but after having it for a week I couldn't be happier. The description noted "cosmetic blemishes on main unit." After doing some research I concluded this could be anything from cat hair on the body to scratches/chips/knicks. The only "cosmetic blemish" we (me and the delivery guys) ever found was some sticker residue from the "Full HD 1080p"-type stickers that used to be on the front. That was easily rubbed off with a finger.
The TV itself is purely beautiful. I upgraded from an old Sanyo 32" SDTV that I've had for about 10 years so, of course, I've just been totally wowed by having a nice HDTV in my home. Picture quality is astounding on all sources. Non-HD cable channels are lacking in quality, but that's the same with any TV. The standard definition channels come through very nice on this TV and it doesn't bother me to watch them at all. If anything, it definitely looks better to me on the HDTV than on the SDTV. It has lots of picture options and modes for sports, movies, etc. The body of the TV is very nice. The red Touch of Color is a nice effect and definitely adds to the beauty. The red is not insanely bright so it's noticeable but it's nowhere near an eyesore.
The 120hz refresh rate is great on this TV. I spent a few hours at Best Buy and Circuit City evaluating 120hz TV's. It's not hugely noticeable on regular things (sitcoms, SD channels, etc). It makes a noticeable difference when watching sports in HD. It makes an incredible difference when watching movies in HD and on DVD (I don't have a Blu-ray Player so standard DVDs here). Some people don't like the way it makes movies look since it does take away that film "feel." Personally, I like it much better because it makes things very smooth. It's easily turned on and off via the remote and actually has 5 settings: Off, Low, Medium, High and Demo. Turned to Low and Medium you retain about 50% and 25% of that film "feel" respectively. On High you've got the full 120hz, and Demo shows you 120hz enabled on one half of the screen while the other half has it disabled for comparisons.
I've seen a lot of complaints about the speakers in this TV, and while the speakers aren't amazing, they aren't terrible either. They are perfectly fine for average TV viewing. Personally, I don't feel the need to turn on the stereo and crank up my speakers just to watch G4, VH1, Discovery Channel or some other generic TV viewing. They sound fine to me and are plenty loud enough for general viewing.
The remote control is very nice. I only use it now to change sources since I use the universal that comes with my cable service for pretty much everything else. There are touch-sensitive "buttons" on the right side to use for power, volume, channel and a handy source button if you ever need to control sans remote.
The TV stand is good and has a nice swivel. I don't use the stand anymore since I mounted the TV to a wall. A plastic cover is provided to cover the hole where the stand goes. Mounting this TV was pretty easy. I used the Peerless SF6640 Universal mount purchased from Amazon. Installing the brackets to the TV was simple. The back of the TV isn't cluttered with unnecessary markings or anything and is the same size everywhere the brackets went. Hanging the TV on the wall was a two-person job simply because I didn't want to risk dropping it. It's 64 pounds without the stand, and, while I could lift it and mount it myself, it's just easier and safer to do it with two people.
One of my main concerns with the mount I got was the clearance for cables plugged into the TV. The mount offered 1.7" of clearance to the wall. I organized my cabling very neatly and ended up with about 0.25" of clearance from the cables to the wall. The included power cord is a right-angle cord and easily fits with the wall. The input panel is slightly set in so it gives a little extra room there (about a quarter of an inch). The component and HDMI cables are curved from the connector to the center of the TV. I didn't have to make any hard curves or bends to get it to fit, but they are not ideal in my opinion. The cables and inputs are in no danger of being damaged, but I would've liked to have 0.1" more just to keep things from having to be curved much at all. On the back of the TV in the center is an attached table wrap that makes routing your cables down and away from the TV easy and neat.
The delivery service was great. They set it up on my temporary stand and powered it on to make sure it worked. I let them take the box after they informed that if I needed to exchange the TV, Amazon would just send me a new TV in a new box anyway and I could just use that box to return anything.
Overall this is one of the best purchases I've ever made, and I got a stellar deal at $1604.81 before shipping. I will be incredibly happy with this TV for many years.
Excellent! October 15, 2008 From the moment of purchase to the delivery, this was a smooth process. The product was received on the date that was promised, and the TV is awesome. I read the reviews about CEVA, the shipper, and I was getting worried. Maybe we just got lucky, but they were great for us. As soon as Amazon gave us the tracking number, I went to their website and started tracking. Additionally, I found their phone number for their office in my area and I called them. They gave me all details and kept me informed of where the product was and when I should expect delivery, which the did not only on the day the promised but they called one hour earlier than delivery to confirm and where at my house exactly an hour later, so I didn't have to waste any time with this and was able to get right to work.
If you are looking at getting this TV, don't be afraid. Amazon group are professionals and their prices are much better than stores. You will not regret it.
Better than expected!!! October 14, 2008 This TV is AWSOME!! 10x better than expected. Equipment: Directv HD DVR, PS3 Blue ray,Sony HDX576WF home theater, All HDMI connections, optic audio(tv 2 home theater). I have had no problems with the on-off issue. the audio could be better, however when used with the home theater its better than going to the movie theater. The picture is perfect. This is a good TV at a good price!
Excellent Television October 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased the Samsung LN53A650 about 1 month ago. I absolutely love it so far. The picture is wonderful. I don't know what happened with the white glove delivery. The guys were nice enough to bring the TV inside for me, but they didn't unpack it. The sound on the TV isn't too great but the picture more than makes up for it. I bought a PS3 and watched 2 Blu-Ray movies on it. I couldn't be happier about this purchase.
