Amazon.com Product Description The 27-inch JVC AV27F577 flat-screen CRT HDTV proves you don't need to spend an arm and a leg to bring vividly colorful high-definition programming into your home. It has a widescreen, 16:9 aspect ratio that's ready for HDTV programming and letterboxed DVD movies. And it offers a variety of video technologies that will enhance your enjoyment of both standard and and high-definition pictures, including a digital comb filter, Invar shadow mask, and velocity scan modulation (with your choice of having it on or off). The set's built-in ATSC (DTV) tuner pulls HD signals (480p/720p/1080i) right from the airwaves, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception via the component video input. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. For HDTV viewing, this set offers selectable 16:9 aspect ratio modes (the native high-def aspect ratio) for displaying widescreen HDTV images on this 4:3 television. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. The velocity scan modulation function improves black to white image transitions for sharper detail and enhanced picture definition in high brightness operating conditions. It also includes an Invar shadow mask for rendering detailed, high-contrast images free of geometric distortion. A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing a brighter, clearer picture. Other features include a PSIP electronic program guide, multi-function and sleep timers, black level expansion, white balance (high/low), channel and video input labeling, high-speed channel changer, and V-Chip parental controls. The built-in, front-firing speakers produce 5 watts of power per channel for 10 watts of total power, and it also features virtual surround sound and a volume limiter. It offers the following connection options: - Composite AV (RCA): 3 in (1 front)
- S-Video: 2 in
- Component video: 2 in
- RF: 2 in (1 digital, 1 analog)
- Audio output: 1 analog
Tech Talk Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound. What's in the Box HD-capable CRT television, remote control (with batteries), printed operating instructions

My search for good picture for this was not shown, It's allot bigger then thought, It's tube TV for some reason of my own fault. I did not understand. Thought was LCD TV, Lot of Ad's don't show all, It a buyer beware issue. But over all It's a Great TV
Unexpected Excellence November 22, 2006 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
Seeing almost no reviews and with a few reservations, I bit the bullet and bought this television. After a few weeks, it seems that this JVC is packed with features and completely underrated.
Despite its SDTV status, the flat screen picture is superb. The colors (including flesh tones) are excellent, defining lines are clean and crisp, and the blacks are good and deep. There are absolutely no problems with bending, bowing, ticker distortion, or any other geometry issues inherent in some brands. DVDs are stunning and though I've heard some complaints about this model's speakers, the set we own has lush sound with crystal clear treble and thumping, well-defined bass which can be mixed to suit you. That's another big plus. The user has the ability to adjust just about every aspect of video and audio to optimize the experience based on individual home theater set up.
There are ample inputs, and the ATSC and QAM tuners are welcomed bonuses. This probably won't be a huge deal for those with satellite service or who get their digital cable or HD via set top box, but those who rely solely on basic and are interested in unscrambled digital channels as well as OTA HD should be fairly pleased with the results. A great feature is that you can actually label the networks your tuner finds so you're not awash in a sea of hyphenated channels looking for something specific . It isn't a perfect system, but it will most likely expand options for basic cable viewers, especially those who plan to invest in a rooftop or indoor HD antenna.
Yes. It is CRT heavy, weighing in at about 95 lbs. Plus, it's not exactly sleek at the rear, but those are the only two negative issues I've encountered so far. Should there be problems with the product or service in future, the review will be updated promptly.
As it stands, those who want an inexpensive medium-sized set and aren't ready to pop for an LCD or plasma HDTV should find this to be a wonderful fit. Easy to set up and master, you should be watching TV about 30 minutes after getting it out of the box, depending on how many add-ons you intend to employ. In all, this remarkable DTV has me thinking this is a gamble that completely paid off. Here's hoping the joy endures as my overall experience has been phenomenal.
