Product Description The T (pronounced "tau") is the crystallization of Panasonic's industry-leading technology, providing a level of viewing realism unlike anything you've ever seen before. It is also the 19th letter of the Greek Alphabet, and the name scientists have given to the last of the 12 known elementary particles believed to form all existing matter. Panasonic has chosen this letter for the television series because its shape suggests the superior flatness and sharp picture quality of these models. It represents the next generation of television, with a flat screen, high quality, realistic, outstanding picture performance and advanced digital technology that set high standards for others to follow.PRODUCT FEATURES:Fine Pitch, Pure Flat Picture Tube;Motion adaptive 3-Line Digital Comb Filter;Velocity Modulated Scan;Wide Band Video Amplifier;Color Temperature Control;Component Video Input;3 Sets of A/V Inputs (1 Front/2 Rear);1 S-Video Input (Rear);BBE High-Definition Sound;Dome Sound System;5 Watts per Channel Stereo;Stereo Headphone Jack;Multi-Brand Remote Control.
Amazon.com Product Description Panasonic's silver, 27-inch CT-27SL13 uses a Tau PureFlat picture tube, which not only looks cool compared to a conventional, bulbous screen, but also provides a high-quality, high-contrast picture--partly owing to the screen's ability to reduce reflected ambient light, but also due to the set's velocity-scan modulation technology. Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. The CT-27SL13's motion-adaptive three-line comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped t-shirt). The set's horizontal and vertical edge correction sharpens the edges of pictured objects, working in conjunction with the dynamic sharpness control and velocity modulated scan to produce clean, crisp images and reduce video noise. An onboard wideband video amplifier expands the video signal frequency response to more than 10 MHz, granting a horizontal resolution of 700 lines (maximum). Through channel labeling, you can assign an ID of one to four characters (such as KIRO or WNET) to up to 30 different channels. This feature comes in handy when cable systems assign different channel numbers to familiar network stations. Channel banner captures information transmitted with each program and places it onscreen in a semi-transparent banner. This information includes TV station identification and the V-Chip rating for the current program. The set gives you stereo audio (with five watts per channel) from broadcast programming via Multi-channel Television Sound (MTS), which permits broadcasters to encode stereo audio within the video portion of TV programming signals. SAP (second audio program, with dbx noise reduction) often offers an additional language track, and BBE High-Definition Sound improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages. A component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. You can choose between two sets of rear AV inputs and a set of front AV inputs for extra convenience, as when hooking up a camcorder or gaming console. A rear audio (switchable fixed-/variable-level) output lets you hook the set up with an integrated amplifier or surround receiver. The set also features a trilingual onscreen display (English, Spanish, French), closed-caption display, V-Chip parental control, a sleep timer, auto-off, and a universal remote control. What's in the Box TV, remote control, remote batteries, and a user's manual.

Picture Too Dark November 27, 2004 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this TV cause it was cheaper then the Sony Wega and seemed to have just as many features. I had high hopes for it, but I ended up returning it just a few hours after I got home with it. The picture was just way too dark! Even when the Picture and Brightness settings are turned all the way up, the picture is dark. This makes darker colors look black, and makes it impossible to see any details in shadows. I messed with all the settings, nothing would make it brighter. If not for this problem, this TV could have ranked right up there with the Sony Wega. Too bad.
Not so hot... May 15, 2004 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
The first thing I missed was the lack of on-screen programming. Even though this is supposed to be a "flat screen" it was still 13 or so inches deep and weighed about 90 pounds. The sound wasn't that good either. Since it was also physically dropped by the shipper(DHL), the seller, (J & R Music) allowed me to exchange it. I ended up buying a Toshiba 27AF44 that I thought was better. Be careful who the seller wants to use for shipping whatever TV you decide to get!
Poor contrast February 19, 2004 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Although I appreciate excellent sound and sharpness of the picture, I can't live with the poor color contrast on this screen. I fiddled with the adjustments, as advised by other reviewers, but to no avail. The dark colors look like amorphous blobs, and the contrasting areas have an unpleasant glow. There's no contrast control. I really wanted to love this TV, but it's going back to the store.
Don't be put off by the default picture settings! February 15, 2004 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I really like this tv. However, my first impressions were not good because of the following 3 things: 1) It was a lot bigger than I expected (i.e. a lot more tv around the actual picture, which was different than I was used to), because I wasn't used to tv speakers on the sides of the picture - but it makes for great sound quality. 2) I totally agree with the previous reviewer who commented on the default picture settings. At first, I was TOTALLY put off by the picture quality -- orange faces, ridiculously over-saturated colors and complete lack of details in the shadows (a black sweater looked like a definition-less blob of black). And the picture settings were not intuitive (it took literally hours and some elaborate combinations of settings to get what I thought was a normal picture). But now the picture looks great! So don't be discouraged by the bizarre picture and perservere with the settings - and then you'll love it! 3) The negative part about buying this item from Amazon was the shipper. They were not used to the setup service that Amazon offers (since you can't return it once you've signed for it, they are supposed to unpack it for you). So there was a lot of back-and-forth on the phone with the shipper and Amazon customer service before it was delivered, and then the shipper sent 1 man with this huge 90 lb television and didn't tell him he had to unpack it and set it up. For the $69 shipping fee, I would've hoped the shipping/setup would've gone more smoothly. Now that these three things have been resolved, I'm really loving the tv!
Great Sound, Great Picture January 20, 2004 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this set at my local Circuit City store. I've had this set since last August. I've had no problems at all with it. The picture is phenomenal and so is the sound. We looked at a Sony set and it was much higher priced. You're paying for the name. Buy this Panasonic TV. You won't be disappointed!!
