Amazon.com Review The Toshiba CZ27V51 color TV proves that you don't always have to skimp on the extras to get a great quality set at a reasonable price. This 27-inch direct-view TV offers superb video performance and stereo sound as well as some cutting-edge extras. Toshiba has souped up this TV set with some impressive technology, including advanced picture-in-picture and still-frame functions. In particular, we liked the wide variety of viewing options available in the picture-in-picture mode. This unit allows you to adjust the size of the second picture window to display a program at either one-ninth or one-sixteenth of the main television screen. You can also switch the location of the picture-in-picture window to any of the four corners of the main screen. We were perplexed, however, by the frivolous still-frame feature, which allows you to freeze the picture on your TV screen at any time with a simple click of the "still" button on your remote control. This feature is useful for capturing on-screen text and information (such as a Web-site address or phone number), but most people probably won't use it. In addition to these fancy features, Toshiba delivers superior video and audio quality through standard AV cables. It also supports the higher-quality S-Video format, which delivers a crisper picture than a standard AV connection. If you combine this TV with a high-end Toshiba VCR or DVD player, you may be able to take advantage of a significant video-performance boost via Toshiba's proprietary ColorStream technology. The manufacturer claims that ColorStream delivers the best possible picture. Overall, we found the Toshiba CZ27V51 to be a good value. With both high-quality performance and expanded features, this model outshines most other TV models in the same price range. Pros: - Top-of-the-line video quality
- Advanced picture-in-picture features
- Freeze-picture option
Cons: - Access to advanced ColorStream technology requires other Toshiba components

COMPONENT VIDEO INPUTS! January 6, 2000 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
If you own a DVD player this TV is perfect for you. FORGET the S-Video hookups! Save that for your satellite! The real beauty of this set are the COMPONENT VIDEO hookups for your DVD. This option gives you superior quality video from your DVD when compared to the old S-Video plug!It is important to understand this. This is the only set in this size that I am aware of offering them. Leave the S-Video input to those poor saps who bought an inferior DVD without this option. Nuff said?
A Great buy for any movie lover. August 16, 1999 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This Television has great picture when combined with a Toshiba 2109 DVD player. Make sure and buy some Monster RCA cables or Monster S-Video cables if you want to experience the same incredible picture that I am experiencing. To round out your purchase, pick up Pioneer HTV-1 Home Theatre System and you will truly be blown away.
1st guy must have a bad source, my picture is very clear. July 21, 1999 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
My Toshiba is a great set, I have the Toshiba VCR w/ the Color Stream, Toshiba DVD, and Toshiba DSS. I could not ask for anything else. Fantastic!!!
Excellent quality television August 28, 1999 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this tv as a display model from a major electronics chain chiefly for the price. I was amazed at the picture as well as the expansion capabilities of this television. I am going to purchase a TOSHIBA SD3109 DVD PLAYER to make my home theatre experience complete.
The final analog TV I will ever buy (but a very good one) September 9, 1999 33 out of 33 found this review helpful
I chose this TV over the standard Sony 27" Trinitron because of all the nice extras: still frame PIP, S-Video input, larger, more powerful speakers, simulated surround sound (that actually works very well), a better universal remote, and perhaps most important, automatic closed-captioning when the mute is activated. Being a consumer of multiple media types (Internet, CD music, and television), the automatic closed captioning allows me to follow what's going on television, without interfering with my music and internet browsing experience. There's one minor drawback: this TV is really meant to be viewed straight-on. Unlike the Sony, which has a vertically flat screen, the Toshiba screen is not flat. When viewed at more than a 40 degree angle, there is a very slight blur at the corners (like older TV sets). But that shouldn't be applicable for most people who place their couches directly opposite of their televisions anyway. The Surround Sound was developed by a Massachusetts firm, by the way (Cambridge Soundworks, I think). And Toshiba sets are nortorious for longevity. I still have a 1985 13" flatscreen Blackstripe TV is perfect working condition. Highly recommended for busy people who appreciate big sound when they want it.
