Great lens November 18, 2008 Brought this for the D80 about two months ago, and I'm loving it. With the 1.5 crop factor, it's perfect for portraits, and I don't have to get too close to my victim (subject/model). I also compliment this with the 85mm 1.8 for portraits. Of course, your feet/legs have to work for the composition, but this puppy will deliver sharp images!
Fast and sharp lens November 17, 2008 After using only Zoom lenses, going to a prime its like magic.
You loose the zoom, so you have to start moving (step back, step forward) but the aperture of this lenses its great, low-light shots are now possible without an intrusive flash.
Lens have good build quality and sharpness, and are a great and cheap option, but note; this 50mm will become 75mm on digital DX format cameras. Its hard to take a picture of a group of people on a small room due to this. (birthday? aim for the cake and 1 or 2 persons max)
What else you should consider before buying this? Nikon 35mm f/2D AF Wide-Angle Nikkor Lens for Nikon 35mm and Digital SLR Cameras Wider angle, a bit slower. or Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras Same angle, faster ;) or Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras Wider POV and faster, not Nikon but I will buy this one instead if I had the money now...
An awesome lens November 15, 2008 I was a little unsure about this lens because of no zooming in or out. But after i got it the picture came out great and professional. Had a little trouble working with it in low light but i was told i need to bump up the iso settings. Other than that very good lens and i missed out on the 5 year warranty....
A tad noisy, but still a great lens November 13, 2008 This lens is really noisy when focusing, but everything else about it is great - nice bokeh, excellent in low light, and the price... especially the price! It's become my everyday lens.
Love It!! November 11, 2008 I bought this lens back in the spring...it's approaching winter and it's still on my camera! I LOVE this lens!! Besides, for this low price, you really can not go wrong!
